After learning about French Impressionism, seventh grade students brought their paints outside and painted "en plein air". This is a French expression that means 'in the outdoors". Students experimented with impressionist techniques such as painting with short brushstrokes, capturing light, and using no black.
First grade read a book called The Dot by Peter Reynolds. We learned that everyone makes a different kind of mark; each of us is unique. One seven year old noted," If a person makes it, and it comes from their heart, then it's art." Pretty insightful!
Children learned about other artists who create dots to make art and set about to explore circles on their own. When we're finished we'll see countless dots- all as unique as their creators!
