December Gems

Enjoy a glimpse into our art room during the
wonderfully crazy month of December : )

Often, there doesn't seem to be enough time to complete a lesson the way I envision. But you can be sure there's a tremendous amount of learning, discovery, and adventure as children earnestly and enthusiastically create gifts for their families!

Grade 7: Metal Repousse Ornaments
For inspiration, we looked at visual texture and lines in Vincent Van Gogh's art.

Grade 2:  Symmetrical Angel Sculptures
How we squeezed this lesson into two short periods, I'll never know!

Grade 1:  Torn Paper Nativity
December... the month where "crafts" and glitter might sneak into the art studio.....Oh boy, do first graders love glitter!

Grade 5:  Stained Glass Ornaments
So cute! Thanks to our awesome fifth grade teachers who helped find time to finish these!

First, kids drew lines with black sharpies one side of the acetate. Then, they turned it over, and drew with colored permanent markers on the back.

Grade 4: Ornaments in Light and Shadow

Grade 3: Nativity Silhouette
Learning about focal point, emphasis, and shape.
