Textile arts are some of my favorite arts to teach because children become so engrossed and relaxed! They're exposed to something totally different, everyone meets with success, and manipulating tactile materials provides much need fine motor experience. Each year, third graders learn to weave on a radial loom using objects such as paper plates or CD's. (like this) After seeing Cassie Stephen's colorful post, I knew we HAD to try these.
Usually my kids wove first, then colored the loom with markers.
Painting first made for a powerful finished piece!
